CHILD CARE

Your child is discovering all kinds of new worlds. That's why at YMCA Child Care we carefully design every activity to expand your kid's imagination and encourage lifelong positive values. Their newfound confidence naturally strengthens the relationship they have with you, and that progression is at the heart of our philosophy -- good child care is good family care. We offer: field trips, nutritious snacks, age-appropriate curriculum, winter and spring break camps, experienced professional staff, half-day and holiday special events, fun-filled activities, sports and fitness activities, enrichment activities, supervised homework time, and swimming classes.

Full- and part-time YMCA Child Care is divided into specific, age-appropriate programs that provide your kids with high-quality and enjoyable experiences. For infants and toddlers, personal attention, rich sensory experiences, and a generous supply of giggles are a big part of their day. Preschoolers learn the importance of making choices, taking turns, developing language skills, and working in a group while they play games and create to the limits of their imagination. School-aged kids join in a variety of experiences including: service-learning, science, reading, and developing and practicing social skills. They gather in a safe environment that focuses on making friends, building relationships, staying active, and exercising leadership skills.

Before- and After-School Program (grades K-5)

Our Before- and After-School program provides young people in Arlington an opportunity to participate in an extended-learning experience that supports the out-of-school educational, recreational, social, and emotional needs of youth. Our program creates an excitement for learning and an outlet for creative expression through an innovative, hands-on approach in a variety of out-of-school settings based on the building blocks of every YMCA program: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring. We provide daily experiences in eight core content areas that are consistent with the YMCA mission to build strong kids. These areas include:

  • Arts and humanities
  • Character development
  • Health, wellness, and fitness
  • Homework support
  • Literacy
  • Science and technology
  • Service-learning
  • Social competence and conflict resolution

School Closure Camps (grades K-5)

During the school year when school is out and you are rushing around trying desperately to find a babysitter, remember that the YMCA is open. We hold day and week-long camps so the holidays don't have to be stressful for you. Enjoy the peace of mind that comes with knowing where your child is and that he or she is having a memorable day making new friends, learning a new craft, experimenting with science, taking field trips, or just playing a fun sport or game. Because we have a mix of children from almost every elementary school in Arlington, your child will make friends with new kids from other areas. For more information about our camps, please call the YMCA Arlington.

YOUTH SPORTS AND FITNESS

With health and obesity a major issue in our community, and gaining national attention, the YMCA of Metropolitan Washington is pleased to offer of the YMCA "PHD" Program -- Physical, Healthy, and Driven program especially designed for children, ages 6-13 years old.
