YMCA Arlington Reimagined

More Purpose. More Passion. More Community.

The YMCA of Metropolitan Washington is redeveloping  YMCA Arlington to create an expanded, world-class community YMCA facility.

The Arlington branch of the YMCA of Metropolitan Washington first opened its doors in 1944 and has served the diverse and growing Arlington community as a trusted community partner for almost 80 years. Y Arlington provides opportunities for health and wellness, school age childcare, summer day camp, aquatics, and tennis and squash serving over 4,600 children, adults and seniors annually. From 2010 to the present, over $1,000,000 in financial support has been provided to the Arlington community for children and families to participate in Y programs.

YMCA Arlington was awarded the Nonprofit of the Year by the Arlington Leadership Center for Excellence. This award signifies the community’s recognition of the Y’s mission in Arlington County over the past decades. Criteria for the award include being a servant leader, ethics, and partnering with other community leaders. Each and every day the Y strives to be a benefit to the community and is grateful for the recognition of this work.

The new YMCA Arlington will be a manifestation of two highly respected entities with shared values and vision meshing to serve Arlington County residents. This Y will be designed for the Arlington Community by the Arlington Community with input and collaboration from local universities, schools and hospitals.

New YMCA Arlington will serve an estimated 11,415 children, adults and seniors annually; creating 108 new permanent living wage positions and 175 construction jobs.

ARLINGTON COMMUNITY EQUITY CENTER

The Arlington County Equity Center advances the goals expressed in the Arlington County Board’s September 2019 Equity Resolution, which defines equity as: “all populations having access to community conditions and opportunities needed to reach their full potential and to experience optimal well-being.”  The center is an innovative opportunity to advance Arlington County’s equity work. More than a place or a program, the center seeks creative ways to solve the pressing concerns of our community as an ever-evolving enterprise.

Through the Center, the Y serves as a hub for community members to learn, lead, organize, advocate and meaningfully connect with a shared focus on equity, respect, and inclusion. The center is a demonstration of our commitment and shared partnership to create positive change and equity in our community.

Primary work of the center:

This facility will create space for individuals, teams and groups to experience learning and community building in an interactive and transformative way. In partnership with local and national experts in equity work, interactive and transformative learning experiences will be promoted and offered for diverse stakeholders from all sectors to develop common understanding and design solutions to equity, diversity, and inclusion challenges.
