YMCA Arlington Tennis & Squash Center Pickleball Coach Bios


Helen White 

Helen believes in the power of playing sports for all.  In 2012, she became the USA Pickleball Ambassador for Northern Virginia and began promoting and teaching pickleball throughout the DC area (and beyond).  Since then, she has led over 150 Introduction to Pickleball sessions for older adults, teachers, sports administrators, condo residents, college students, Native Americans, cancer survivors, kids, wounded warriors, soldiers and more.  She organizes pickleball socials, tournaments and other special events (e.g., pickleball exhibitions at the Citi Open Tennis Tournament and at the NBC4 Health & Fitness Expo) and competes in local, regional, and national tournaments.

In 2015, she was appointed as the USA Pickleball District Ambassador for Northeast Virginia and Washington, D.C. and guides a team of almost 20 volunteer ambassadors who promote pickleball throughout the district.

She has directed a number of tournaments including the DC Senior Games Pickleball Tournament and the Mid-Atlantic Open Pickleball Tournament, in Arlington, a 300+ player sanctioned event.

She teaches pickleball for FirstServe Tennis where she leads a team of five part time coaches.  She also teaches for the Fairfax County Park Authority, the City of Falls Church and at the Burke Racquet & Swim Club.

She is a Professional Pickleball Registry (PPR) Certified Coach and has taught over 3000 people how to play pickleball.


George Dwyer

George  is a certified teaching pro by the Professional Pickleball Registry. He has taught hundreds of students through Introductory, Intermediate, and Individual instruction sessions and clinics.  He has been teaching for several years for the Dept. of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities in the City of Alexandria, Virginia and most recently for FirstServe Tennis and at the YMCA.  Dr. Dwyer is a contributing editor at Pickleball Magazine, and serves on the Advisory Board of the Jimmy and Rosslyn Carter School of Peace and Conflict Resolution at George Mason University.


Rebecca (Becky) Blood

Becky is a PPR Certified Pickleball Coach Building upon her experience as an accomplished tennis player (High School and College), youth and adult tennis instructor, Becky dedicates her skills to helping adult and youth beginners learn and love the sport of pickleball. In addition to playing regularly, Becky shares her passion with beginners enrolled in the learn to play pickleball programs provided by FirstServe Tennis and the Fairfax County Park Authority.  Recently, Becky successfully completed the requirements to become a Certified Pickleball Coach and is now a member of the Professional Pickleball Certified Coach Registry.

Becky’s association with the Arlington, Virginia sports community dates to her days as a volunteer school tennis teacher and coach.  While her children attended Arlington’s St. Agnes Elementary School, Becky coached the school’s 4th-8th graders tennis players for several years.  During this time, Becky worked closely with the Arlington YMCA tennis coach legend Mel Labat, who provided coaching guidance and tournament assistance. Their partnership and friendship extended to her son, Gianni Snidle, who served as one of Mel’s summer tennis teaching coaches.


Steve Etkin

Steve is a pickleball enthusiast and believes everyone can learn to enjoy the game either socially or competitively with good quality instruction. He took up the sport towards the end of his working career and plays six to eight hours a week when not coaching. His self-assessed skill level is 3.8 to 4.0. In addition to coaching pickleball, he is a certified yoga instructor teaching vinyasa and power styles of yoga. He holds a TRX instructor certification from Fitness Anywhere, LLC for suspension training. Steve spent more than 15 years as senior soccer referee to older teenagers and adults in local leagues, regional tournaments and State Cup, and as a coach to players ages 6, 7 and 8 in local community leagues.


Gregg Deinhart

Gregg is co-owner of FirstServe Racquet sports. Beginning in 2002 as FirstServe Tennis, Gregg and his team have coached thousands of tennis lessons across northern Virginia to players of all ages and skill levels. Already a USPTA tennis teaching professional, Gregg became a PPR-certified pickleball instructor in 2020.
